Here when I passed the night on the slope of volcano during the eruption, here this was terribly! It is terribly gay and it is beautiful!
Yes, it’s one of those “which X are you” quizzes. But it’s about the characters from Tove Jansson’s beautiful Moomintroll books, and it was originally written in Russian, which means Babelfish’s translation engine renders it in an evanescent English that haphazardly tumbles fractured questions and answers together like some strange game of Exquisite Corpse, which all ends up fitting just so with Jansson’s air of impishly serious whimsy. It’s the most poetic thing I’ve done all morning—and I’m not going to dispute the results:
Yes you – Snusmumrik!!
Eternal wanderer and the uncorrectable romantic. You beckons entire unknown beautiful. For you always better place, where you are not. But you will look, can, where you already there is, it is much better?
Well, except we call him Snufkin in English. But other than that.
Who are you in the Mumi- portion?

I don't even have to take the quiz. I'm Little My's mom.
Which is probably just as well, because I can't get through, dammit.
That was the greatest. The translation crapped out halfway through and I have to just guess on the Russian answers based on whether they included my favorite letter, Zhe, and it still came back with Moominmamma--totally right on.
I'm Hattifatteners! I thought I'd be The Groke for sure.
(And, Kip, if this is my first comment, I apologize for its lack of insight. What do you make of the gendered response to Moominquizes?)
Julia, Little My's mother is The Mymble, which my little brother pointed out should probably be pronounced with the same "y" as My. I'd never thought of that before.
Rose, if I got huffy about "lack of insight," half my posts would languish in the dust. We like the blurt, here. --What do I make of it? I'm tempted to quote whatsisname, from Airplane. (I could make a hat, or...) I've seen a couple mothers get Moominmama, and Sara (from whom I gacked the quiz, link above) scored the 'troll his own bad self, and her friend got Thingumy and Bob, and I got Snufkin. And while you can sometimes spot the character they're pegging, even through the language difference, it's really hard to spot a gender bias in all that Russlish. So I dunno.
But apparently there's a band named the Hattifatteners that plays Moomincore. That, I've got to hear.
