It’s not just Democratic representatives, trying to get a reading of a bill at the last minute before a committee vote. It’s also TV stations that dare to air ads critical of the President and scientists who can’t tell them what they want to hear. It’s even fellow Republicans who dare to deviate an iota from the party line. Hell, it’s even you and me and anyone else who wants to maybe try to get some sort of customer service from the folks currently occupying our White House. —Ah, well. Even cartoonists in support of Bush aren't immune from the crackdown on any hint of criticism.
Actually, I'm leaving that one off--it wasn't the government that called in the tip, it was some crackpot, and the Secret Service has to investigate just about every such call, even if they're pretty sure it's dumb. They follow procedure, and while procedure overreaches, I honestly don't think Ramierz was in any danger.
On the other hand--what a lousy cartoon. On both a communicating-the-cartoonist's-point level, and an appreciating-the-nuances-of-history level. Politics as South Vietnam? Bush as North Vietnam? What?
